Is Cool Sculpting The Right Treatment For Me?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical medical treatment that essentially destroys fat in your body by freezing it. The actual process is a little more technical, but in a nutshell, that’s what it is.

The procedure is fairly new in terms of medical treatments being offered, but over the past 10 years, it’s popularity has soared, due to the non-invasive nature of the procedure, and it is now the top cosmetic treatment around the world for reducing fat in the model.

Since it was first approved by the FDA in 2010, it is said that over 6 million individuals have had at least one form of CoolSculpting carried out on their bodies. The process can be carried out on many parts of the body including the upper torso, thighs, buttocks and the chin. However, it is not suitable for removing all types of fat.

The differences in fat

Fat is fat, but there are several different types of fat in the human body. CoolSculpting is suitable for what is referred to as persistent or stubborn fat, which is the type that doesn’t go away through either exercise or diet, or even a combination of them both. It is on this type of fat that CoolSculpting really starts to make a difference.

If a person is clinically obese and extremely overweight, even though they have this localized fat on their bodies, they not be a good candidate for the treatment, and in most cases, will be required to lose a substantial amount of weight before the treatment can take place.

How does it compare to other treatments

CoolSculpting isn’t the only medical procedure that can remove fat from the body. There are a number of different options available, but in many cases, CoolSculping has some important advantages and benefits. Being non-invasive and non-surgical,  it is carried out without any anesthesia, and is almost painless. Many medical practices may offer a variety of treatments for fat removal, while others may specialise only on CoolSculpting, such as the New Jersey CoolSculpting® Center which you can find at njcenterforcoolsculpting.com.

With procedures such as liposuction or laser lipolysis, though they can be as equally effective as CoolSculpting, they have the disadvantage of being procedures that take place under some form of anesthesia – general for liposuction and general for laser lipolysis.

Liposuction procedures to remove quantities of fat from the body come with a greater risk and require the patient to endure various incisions on the body. The recovery time is also much longer.

Laser lipolysis is a procedure where a laser fibre is inserted under the skin, which then starts to melt the targeted fat cells. As with liposuction, the recovery time from this procedure is lengthy, and there is also the risk of damage to nerves and blood vessels during the treatment.

Does CoolSculpting have any side effects?

As with most medical treatments and procedures, each will carry the risk of some side effects, though these will obviously vary from patient to patient. With CoolSculpting there are a number of potential risks, though the side effects will only be temporary and usually mild.

These include some swelling or bloating, redness or firmness of the skin, slight bruising, and some tenderness on the area of the body where the procedure was performed. None of these are serious issues, and if arise, should pass within a couple of days.

Are the results of CoolSculpting temporary or permanent?

The results of any CoolSculpting treatments are permanent, as the fat cells in your body are frozen and destroyed. They are not expected to come back. However, it is very important to note that unless you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle with regular exercise, then fat can come back. Remember that CoolSculping is not a weight loss treatment, but one to merely remove fat from the body.

Nothing can help you more with regards to losing weight than a well balanced and structured diet, and regular forms of exercise. Look at CoolSculpting as a tool to help redefine parts of your body after you have lost some weight.

How long until the results are visible?

CoolSculpting is not a magical treatment, where you can walk out of the clinic after a single procedure and look like a different person. Everyone’s body will react differently to the treatment, and in some cases, it is common for a number of procedures to take place in the same part of the body.

In general, the first visible results from the treatment will usually appear after 4 weeks, whereas results that are more noticeable can be seen at around 12 weeks. Following a healthy diet and lots of exercise can help improve your overall results from the treatments, but this will be something that is hopefully already part of your lifestyle.
